Michalis Nikiforakis was born in Iraklion, Crete, where he lives and works as a dentist. Up to 1979 he used black and white film for his photographs and from then on, colour. At the same time he also became interested in slide photography, which he has presented at public showings of a variety of sound-recorded themes, both Greek and international. In 1979 the FIAP awarded him the title A. FIAP and in 1991, E. FIAP. From 1975 to 1993 he took part in over 300 exhibitions word-wide and about 130 different photographic creations have received special praise.
In 1967 he was elected Chairman of the Hellenic Photographic Society, Crete and continued to be re-elected to this position for 30 years. In 2000 he decided to no longer participate in the administrating body of the H.P.S., Crete, which responded by bestowing the title Honourary Chairman on him.
