Born in Fiesole (Florence), Italy, in 1945. Has always been fascinated by photography. Lithographer by trade (which helped a lot). In 1973 he purchased his first reflex camera and enrolled in a FIAF associated ( Italian Photographic Associations Federation ) club. He prefers to work with B/W films, but photographs also in color. His preferred theme is reportage; he is also interested in getting into close contact with the poeple he photographs. Besides, he loves landscape,portrait and sports photography. He devolops and prints by himself his B/W works ( he cannot imagine a B/W of his printed by others ). His photos have been showcased around the world. He riceived several prizes and unanimous consent in various international photographic contests. In Italy, he holds the second absolute place as far as admissions tho contests are concerned; he’s been also the first to be awarded four different stars in FIAF statistics. Armong his achievements are three first prizes, a second prize and a Honorable Mention in the FIAP ( Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique) World Cup for nations. He’s been awarded prizes in three different Photo Nikon Contest editions. In addition to some books and calendars he has published folders ( numbered, signed and printed in limited edition ) with his work: “Portraits: Maramures at the end of the Millennium” at the FIAP Congress in Prato-Italy (2001) and “The World of Maramures” at the FIAP Congress in Budapest (2004). This last work, judged to be the best of the Congress, earned him the title of Maître FIAP (Master FIAP). A recent issue of the French magazine Photo Art - distributed all over the world - devoted an 8 page spread to Virgilio. In 2005 he was invited by China, with other photographers from all over the world, to document TIBET . Book ”Focusing on snow land” In 2006 the FIAP granted him the EFIAP/Platinum. In the whole world, photographers possessing both these two photographic honors, Maître FIAP and EFIAP/p, can be counted on one hand. Last work has been the book “High water to Venice”.The only book to describe the phenomenon of the high water. A selection of these photos has been exposed in Venice in the prestigious gallery “Bevilacqua La Masa” in S. Marco Square. During year 2007 FIAF confered honour IFI, Insignito Fotografo Italiano ( Confered Italian Photographer ) upon him.
